Voice Channel Reactions

Voice Channel reactions are a new communication surface within Discord's audio/video call feature. We wanted to provide users with a real time way to interact with a group without needing to unmute and actually speak.
Users can choose any emoji they like and it will animate across their profile card in a voice channel. The animation is chosen randomly from a set of roughly 40 different variations.
I worked with Discord's product team to develop and scope the project through a few different iterations before we landed on the implementation that was shipped to users. I then worked with our engineering team troubleshoot programmatic replacement of emoji assets depending on user selection. I then created all the needed animations in After Effects to be output as Lottie files.
